The LibDem and Tory axe falls on our schools
MP Phil Woolas has spoken out about the Government’s decision to ditch plans for
a new Saddleworth School in Diggle, as the fall out over the sensational axe of the
rebuilding scheme contiues.
The Oldham East and Saddleworth MP joined hundreds of
shocked parents coming to terms with the consequences for the future of the borough’s
ageing schools.
He said: “For the area it is a tragedy, it is very sad, unnecessary
and partly political.
“We fought to get Saddleworth high on the list, now all we
have to look forward to is what we have already got.”
“The grounds are hopelessly
too small for a modern school and while I recognise that good heads and teachers
make a good school, which Saddleworth have, a new building would make it so much
better.”
