Campaign to reduce gas and electric costs for pre-payment meter customers

Many constituents have contacted me about their concerns about the cost of using a pre-payment meter. I asked the government to look into this. Households that use prepayment meters typically pay around £55 more a year for their energy than customers paying by standard credit and £144 more than those who pay by direct debit.  This is unacceptable.

Ofgem (Office of Gas and Electric Markets (the UK Regulator) is investigating this. Should its investigation reveal that the customers using pre-payment meters are being treated unfairly,

I will press the government to legislate to reduce unfair differentials, if companies do not provide the solution. The government has already said this is its intention.  Please contact me if this issue affects you.
